Marvel Star Jonathan Majors AVOIDS JAIL TIME In Assault Case

Previously a rising star in Hollywood, Jonathan Majors, who was previously cast as the main villain of the current saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was since dropped from the Avengers franchise after the jury verdict of misdemeanor charges, despite being acquitted of assault.

Jonathan Majors has been ordered to complete a domestic violence counselling programme after sentencing in assault case.

Today, the 34-year-old actor faced court for his sentencing after a guilty verdict of misdemeanor third-degree assault and one count of second-degree harassment late last year, after assault allegations were filed by his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Judge Michael Gaffey of the Manhattan Criminal Court believed jail time was unnecessary for misdemeanor charges and thus sentenced Majors to a 52-week in-person batterer intervention program, a continuance on his therapy as well as a $250 surcharge. A protective order was also issued for Ms. Jabbari.

Despite being acquitted of the assault charges Majors faced, Marvel and various other studios dropped him from their upcoming projects, with reports Marvel now plans to move away from the character of Kang as the main villain, some claiming the infamous Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom will take his place as the antagonist of the upcoming Avengers releases. A few leakers claim the character will remain and merely be recast, with Colman Domingo named as a frontrunner. Some theorize Marvel is intent on keeping the actor, as an ABC and Hulu interview dropped shortly after the guilty verdict, trying to paint Majors as wrongfully convicted. Many may know that Marvel, ABC, and Hulu are all Disney-owned.

As Majors’ misdemeanor charges essentially surmountable to self-defence, many were shocked at his immediate ousting from Hollywood. To put his sentencing into perspective, the charges majors was found guilty of, a count of misdemeanor third-degree assault and one count of second-degree harassment, in the context of the case and jury verdict, essentially mean Majors was guilty of accidentally harming then-girlfriend Jabbari’s hand when trying to get her off him and prevent her from clawing at his face any further.

The main assault charges, intentional assault in the third degree and aggravated harassment in second degree, were acquitted by the jury. After the verdict, a jury spokesperson explained that the majority of the jury were in agreeance to acquit Majors of all charges, but a couple of holdout jurors insisted Majors had to receive some charge, so, to avoid a mistrial, the jury compromised and found Majors guilty of the least severe charges.

By law of the New York State, self-defence and reclamation of property via reasonable force are permissible, yet these are what Majors was convicted for. Thus, we anticipate Majors will submit an appeal on this verdict, and legal experts who followed the case believe this should be an easy win for the actor, as this distinction was not made clear to the jury by Judge Michael Gaffey.

Those who have followed the case eagerly await for the next steps from Majors’ legal team as, with the release of the case’s exhibits, several videos hit the internet that swayed the public opinion, largely those CCTV footages of Jabbari chasing down an afraid Majors on foot in the streets of Manhattan, and another seemingly displaying Jabbari self-inflicting head injuries by repeatedly smashing her head on a DJ-booth, captured on in-club CCTV.

Several allegations of corruption have been made in the past against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who aggressively pursued the Jonathan Majors case, regarding the cases he chooses to pursue or toss out, allegedly not caring about his constituents of lower income who are openly murdered, and instead opting to pursue high-profile cases.
