Jeremy Allen White Cast as Jabba the Hutt's Son in 'Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu'
The following article is a casting announcement for Star Wars’ ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’.
Jeremy Allen White has been confirmed to have joined the Star Wars galaxy, as he has joined the cast of ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ as the voice of Jabba the Hutt’s son Rotta the Hutt. The film marks the first film and theatrical Star Wars release since 2019, and the actor’s first major franchise debut.
White, known for his Emmy-winning breakout role on FX series ‘The Bear’, which shares a streaming service with Star Wars series ‘The Mandalorian’, first rose to prominence on Showtime series ‘Shameless’, before taking on the lead role of ‘Carmy’ in the critically acclaimed cooking family drama ‘The Bear’, a role which won him Golden Globe, Emmy, and SAG awards.
This news confirms that ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ will be the first time Rotta has been seen on screen since 2008’s animated ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ movie. Rotta’s fate and canon whereabouts have long been speculated, but this casting report would suggest that the fans will have their questions answered nearly twenty years after the character’s last on-screen appearance and debut. Despite wildly conflicting in-canon reports on Rotta, the most recent information would suggest Rotta would be approximately 43 years old at the time of the film – for reference, Jabba is reported to have been approximately 600-years-old at the time of his death in ‘Return of the Jedi’.
‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ is being directed by Jon Favreau (‘The Mandalorian’), who wrote the screenplay with Dave Filoni (‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’, ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’). The project, which stars Pedro Pascal as one of the titular characters (The Mandalorian, AKA Din Djarin) has been reported to have recently wrapped filming, and is set to release on May 22nd, 2026, in cinemas worldwide.
The news was first reported by Jeff Sneider on the ‘Kristian Harloff Show’.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian is now streaming worldwide, exclusively on Disney+.
